Ptuj Performance Center Completed!

With its splendid and inspiring past, followed by an unfortunate fate after the dissolution of the fraternity, the renovation of former Dominican monastery and its conversion in to a modern performance center represents a demanding task of great responsibility. The interweaving of different building styles forms fragile and sensitive environments, which offer an excellent spatial framework already on their own. The perennial quest for compromise between the demands of conservationists and functional demands of the new content has been therefore taken forward with architectural ideas informed chiefly by the attitudes of respect towards the built and cultural heritage.

Small publishing company headquarters is designed on top of an existing building. Podčetrtek Traffic Circle

The Traffic Circle marks the entrance to dark monolithic volume of municipal sport hall on one and the thermal spa complex on the other side of the regional road. Its design suggests a tectonic shift have caused the road surface to bloat and belched out the massive blocks. In combination with the water, which sporadically rises to the surface between the clefts, it is somewhat reminiscent of geyser-strewn basalt strata, its appearance thus evoking the presence of both nearby facilities.

Novo mesto Central Market

Simple, monolithic, concrete building volume re-defines the city block and a square in front of it. The multi-gabled roof and the facade designed with arched elements reference to the immediate surroundings and the distinctive layout of the main city square. The arch is transferred from the facade also to the interior and acts as the main construction element. Intertwining the arches together enables a very slender construction and produces an interesting interplay of light and shadows on the interior surfaces.

Stamboldzioski Dental Studio

Stamboldžioski Dental Studio has been built as a replacement for the cramped surgery in the dentist's private house, which was set up on the ground floor. It is therefore an annex, whose floor area - as it so often happens in such cases – exceeds that of the house it has been annexed to. The relationship was instead sought with the natural landscape in which the annex is placed. The building is built on a slope, which allows its greater part to be dug in. This reduces its presence in the space despite the somewhat expressive appearance, which follows the building's public function.

Ljubljana Islamic Religious and Cultural Center

With intention to create a lively open space for social encounters, first Slovenian Islamic Religious and Cultural Center is organized around mostly roofed Main Square in front of the mosque. The result of subtraction of arc-domes grid covering the square and oriented towards the Mecca - from simple building volume following the geometry of city block grid - resulted in intriguing space, giving the building a distinct (yet islamic) character.

Arhimetrics and Enota won competition for Herman’s Square Building

Two Slovenian architectural offices - Arhimetrics and Enota - joined to win invited competition for Herman's Square Building in Celje.

The new residential and office building is located in vicinity of the old city centre in Celje. The land intended for construction is part of larger degraded non-built up area, which was for decades exempt from the city development. Through the years a very heterogeneous structure evolved around this "wound" in the urban tissue. Though creating a new city landmark the main goal while designing the building was to reconnect the exceptionally heterogeneous area back into a logical whole.

Enota awarded for Podčetrtek sports hall in Belgrade

Enota received recognition for Podčetrtek sports hall on 33. Salon of architecture within the category 'Guests to the Salon – Works abroad'.

Jury president Goran Vojvodić dipl. ing. arh. explains jury decision:
“Authors demonstrated outstanding creativity in the approach, solution of, one might say ordinary, but also a very challenging theme - sports facility. Functional, structural and technological requirements that could certainly lead to a standard sports facility – a hall, didn’t stood in the way of the authors to create, through exceptional designing, inventiveness and dare, a building of different appearance, almost a cultish place in a small urban setting. By insisting on only one colour, the effect of ‘monovolume’ is raised to the level of sculpture, and certainly this building does not present only a shift in the treatment of these design theme, but also a anchor point of architectural profession”.
Salon of Architecture is taking place in the Museum of Applied Art in Belgrade for the 33 rd time. This award programe followed by exhibition is aimed to promote high quality architecture and architects from the country and abroad. The motto of this years Salon is: The Signs of Life: Architecture Around Us...  Exibition is open from 24th March to 30th April 2011.
